New Mercedes-Benz eSprinter gets new platform

The current generation of electric Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is still very fresh, but the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle division is already looking ahead to the next generation of that eSprinter. This new series of electric commercial vehicles promises to be a lot more versatile.

Mercedes-Benz has developed a new electric basis for the next generation of the electric eSprinter. The platform is called Electric Versatility Platform, a name that indicates that the base is modular and can therefore be folded into various sizes. For the new eSprinter, this means that it benefits from a platform specifically developed for EVs and that the electric commercial vehicle will be available in more body configurations.

Mercedes-Benz is still keeping extensive specifications under its cap. In fact, no numbers are mentioned at all. The brand does say that the new electric eSprinter “[…] must deliver the best performance in its segment. “So in any case count on an electric range that far exceeds the 120 kilometers of the current eSprinter. The electric motor will at least be on the rear axle and the battery pack logically in the ground. Mercedes -Benz reports that the battery pack will be available in three sizes and that there will soon be a choice of two wheelbase lengths.

The new eSprinter is not the only purchaser that Mercedes-Benz has in the pipeline. This is because an electric version comes from the new generation Citan. However, the new Citan will not be featured on the Electric Versatility Platform just presented, the eCitan shares its genes just like the regular new Citan, namely with the new Renault Kangoo. Together with the eVito and Sprinter, Mercedes-Benz will soon have a wide range of electric commercial vehicles. Mercedes-Benz has not yet announced when the new eSprinter will be on the market.
