Skoda’s latest SUV is called Kushaq

Skoda is preparing a new SUV that goes by the name Kushaq. A car that we do not just have to expect on the Dutch roads.

The Volkswagen Group is eager to expand its influence on the Indian market. There, it already sells Skoda models that are well-known to us, such as the Octavia, Superb and Rapid, but in the coming years the Czech brand must be even more focused on the local market. That is why the group announced it would invest heavily in setting up a more extensive portfolio in India already 2.5 years ago. The first fruit of that investment can almost be reaped. The Skoda Kushaq is coming.

The Kushaq is a medium-sized SUV that will be slightly different in terms of base than we are used to here in Europe. Volkswagen has developed the MQB-A0-IN platform for the Indian market. Quite a mouthful, but essentially just a new variant of the MQB base known here. The Kushaq is probably an SUV the size of the Karoq, but just a bit simpler and above all cheaper to build. According to Skoda, the name comes from ‘kushak’, a word from Sanskrit that means something like king or emperor. That creates high expectations.

The Kushaq will be unveiled in March and will initially be intended purely for the Indian market. Yet it cannot be completely ruled out that the Kushaq will also be shipped to other parts of the world. After all, when presenting the future plans for India, it was stated that it is investigating whether the cars built there can also be exported to other markets.
