The Peugeot 505 has been on the market for a long time, but here in the Netherlands it has become quite a rarity. This copy has been here in the Netherlands from the start and is now patiently waiting for it to actually be on the road again.
With the 505, Peugeot created the successor to the illustrious 504 in 1979. The large middle class was found to be good enough in terms of design – partly thanks to the involvement of Pininfarina – and handling to be able to remain on the market for a long time. For no less than 13 years, the French sold the 505 in Europe and beyond that it was allowed to continue even longer. The absolute highlight was the 505, built by the Guangzhou-Peugeot joint venture, which rolled off the production line in China until 1997. The nose in particular has stood the test of time well, but in these photos we really see a car that is already 38 years old.
This dark red 505, which the undersigned bumped into, rolled off the production line in Sochaux in 1983 and was subsequently delivered to the Dutch Peugeot dealer. What happened to it afterwards is not entirely clear. The license plate is still authentic, but it is currently not valid. It appears to be an unrestored 505 that is about to be prepared for road use again. Apart from some minor damage on the left rear fender, this looks optically at least promising.
It is a 505 2.0 SR, a version that was fairly high on the order list in 1983 and, until the arrival of the 505 GTI in the same year, even only tolerated the STI. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an output of 100 hp, which sends the forces to the rear wheels via a manual five-speed gearbox. He is not really fast with that, but you can count on it that it is very comfortable to drive in such a 505, especially for its age. Things like central locking, electric front windows and power steering are of the party. Hope that there will be a fresh MOT and then a beautiful summer full of comfortable kilometers awaits!
