GMC presents the SUV version of the previously unveiled GMC Hummer EV. Correct: the same car, but without a gearbox.
The rather insane GMC Hummer EV gets a little brother. The second body style is called GMC Hummer EV SUV and the big difference can be found at the rear of the car. Instead of a relatively short cargo box, we find here a continuous roof to the rear, a set of extra side windows and an almost vertical butt. Another difference with the pick-up is that there is a spare wheel on the rear. You can count on a side-opening ‘back door’ instead of a flap and a window that disappears electrically into that ‘tailgate’ during that process.
In terms of specifications, the differences from the pick-up are very small. The SUV also has removable roof panels and crazy off-road functions such as ‘Crabwalk’. This allows the car to be steered more or less sideways out of an awkward situation.

The SUV is also fast, although the fastest version with more than 1,000 hp is still missing from the list of announced versions. Instead, the most powerful Hummer SUV now has to do with ‘only’ 830 hp (841 hp), which is still good for a 0-100 time in a rather bizarre 3.5 seconds.
The basic version, if we may use that term, works just like the pick-up with two instead of three electric motors. That variant delivers ‘up to 625’ American horsepower and thus still seems anything but slow.

GMC is still quite sparse with information and photos. It actually only shows the places where the car is different: the rear, one photo of three-quarters in the front and an interior that does not show a pick-up on the screens, but an SUV. Not surprising, because the differences are also limited. Even the starting price is still the same, with 79,995 dollars, about 68,000 euros, for both versions. However, it will take until 2024 before this entry-level version becomes available. The first Hummer SUV is the fat and three-engined Edition 1, which will still not be released until 2023. The pick-up will ‘already’ appear in 2022, with GM still participating in the battle for the first full-size electric pick-up truck, the vehicle type that the American market is so eagerly waiting for.
Officially, it will remain for both Hummers in the American market, although the Hummer EV will undoubtedly find its way to our country via gray import.
Hummer
General Motors decided a few years ago to use the name Hummer, which previously symbolized extremely inefficient giga-SUVs, for electric all-rounders. The final hummer EV appeared in October 2020 and is officially sold under the GMC brand name. On the outside, the ‘truck’ is clearly recognizable as Hummer, but underneath the skin everything is different.
The new Hummers come at an excellent time, because terrain executioners like this are immensely popular in the US. This also applies to pickups and increasingly also to hip EVs, so the Hummer EV could just be a success. The fact that the Hummers are already being presented well before their final market introduction, proves how much GM wants to show that this car is really coming.
