Whether you can’t say goodbye to the home button, or with a view to Accessibility, you can’t miss the button: with this tip, you can give the iPhone X a (digital) home button back.
This is how you activate the iPhone X home button
When the iPhone X was introduced, the absence of the home button was immediately noticeable. Touch ID has been replaced by Face ID, but not everyone likes that. Many users are simply used to using a (physical) home button.
Still, the home button has not completely disappeared from the iPhone X. In the settings you can turn on a digital version of the button, so that the bottom bar of the screen makes way for the well-known home button. Apple added this feature to support AssistiveTouch on the X.
This option is intended for people with a disability, who can therefore fully operate their iPhone with fewer movements. However, it also gives people who cannot say goodbye to the home button an alternative. Follow the steps below to turn it on.
- Open the Settings app;
- Choose ‘General’;
- Choose ‘Accessibility’;
- Choose ‘AssistiveTouch’ and turn on the switch.
Now that the option is turned on, you only have to assign the correct actions to it. You do this as follows when you have opened the Assistive Touch menu:
- Just Tap: Home;
- Double Tap: Multitasking;
- Long press: Activate Siri.
All you have to do afterwards is place the virtual home button at the bottom of your screen. To do this, empty the bottom row of icons, so that you can place the button there. After that, you can operate the iPhone X to a large extent, as you are used to from all previous iPhone models with a button under the display.
