Tip: Change home page in Safari on your iPhone, iPad and Mac

Do you want to start with the same website, such as Google or iPhone, every time you open Safari? Which can. This is how you change the homepage on your iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Set Safari home page

Unfortunately, it is not possible to set a launch website for Safari in the default way on iOS. However, you can achieve a similar result through a trick. How to change the Safari homepage on iPhone and iPad:

  1. Open Safari on your iPad or iPhone and go to the website you want to set as your homepage;
  2. Tap the share button at the bottom of the screen;
  3. Choose ‘Add to home screen’, give the shortcut a name and press ‘Add’ at the top right;
  4. If you want Safari to open this website first, tap the shortcut you just created.

Does the home page open unwanted in Reader view? Then force Safari to grab the desktop website by hitting the share button in step 1 and tapping ‘Ask for desktop site’ first. Then follow the rest of the directions.

Safari homepage change on macOS

It is possible to adjust a start page on your Mac. You just have to dive into the settings here. This is how you adjust the Safari homepage:

  1. Open Safari and choose ‘Preferences’ from the menu bar;
  2. Choose ‘General’ and enter the address of the desired homepage next to ‘Homepage’;
  3. Then select ‘Safari opens with’ and ‘New windows open with’ for the newly created homepage.

Whenever you open Safari for the first time or create a new tab, you will see your home page. Of course you can also tap only one of the two options.

Get the most out of Safari

On iPhone, we help you get the most out of your Apple device. For example, did you know that it is possible to search faster in Safari, or to reopen accidentally closed tabs? Private windows in Safari also allow you to surf the web unseen.
