Geneva Motor Show is canceled due to coronavirus

The bullet is through the church: the Geneva Motor Show is not going ahead. This is evident from reports from various Swiss media.

The organization of Palexpo, the convention hall where the Geneva Motor Show is traditionally held, already took risks of the corona virus into account with all kinds of precautions. Although other major events in Europe, including the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona have been canceled and the Auto China car show in Beijing has also been postponed, the Geneva Motor Show would continue as usual. Sad news today: Europe’s most important car fair is not going ahead.

Various Swiss media, including the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, write today that, due to the risk of infection around the corona virus, it has been decided to prohibit large events attracting more than 1,000 visitors, at least until 15 March. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to the Geneva Motor Show every year, so it seems certain that the car fair will not go ahead. The car show would take place from 7 to 17 March. The organization behind the car fair itself has not yet responded. A line has also been drawn by major sporting events that are held up to and including 15. It is now known that the car fair will not be held at a later time either.

At the time of writing, there are 15 confirmed cases of persons infected with the corona virus in Switzerland. More than 100 people are currently in quarantine. In the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Alain Berset, Health Minister says, among other things, that the authorities expect that the number of people in quarantine will only increase in the coming days.

The cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show naturally has no influence on the constant stream of car news on this website. For the time being, almost all scoops will continue as usual, although Bugatti has indicated that it will postpone the unveiling of its new model until the order. On this page we gather the news about the newcomers who would be in Geneva next week: Geneva Motor Show 2020.
