It seems that Netflix will not only offer movies and series, but also games. The streaming service is said to be working on a competitor for Apple Arcade, Apple’s own game service.
‘Netflix is working on game service’
Several sources claim this. According to The Informationusually well-established, Netflix has approached several well-known game developers to join the company.
The Information reports that the streaming service is, among other things, looking for a “coordinator” for the “game division to be set up”. Netflix would still be working on the revenue model, but there is a chance that the company will offer a special game subscription.
That way, one is not dependent on advertisements. Instead, people pay a fixed monthly fee to play unlimited and ad-free games, just like with Apple Arcade.
According to Axios, which also has an excellent reputation, Netflix would offer both its own games and games from others. The Netflix game service should roll out sometime in 2022. Further details, such as the price, are not yet known.
In a response to Axios, Netflix says it is “excited” to do more with “interactive entertainment”. So the rumor is not confirmed or debunked.
Netflix and gaming
Netflix is not a total newcomer to the world of gaming. For example, the streaming service already broadcasts movies and series based on games, such as The Witcher and Resident Evil.
Netflix also worked with game developers in the past, for example for the game of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Netflix has also tinkered with the Stranger Things game, which was never officially released.
This is what we think about Apple Arcade
Play unlimited and ad-free quality games: that’s the promise of Apple Arcade. However, we are less enthusiastic. After months of intensive gaming, we take stock in our Apple Arcade review update.
We especially find the game offer quite disappointing. Admittedly, there are some gems on Apple’s game service, but not enough to pay five euros a month.
