It is equally well known that the well-known Dutch designer Niels van Roij is working on a tribute to a Ferrari Shooting Brake from the 1970s. After previous sketches, we now get to see the car for the first time, although it is far from finished.
Niels van Roij Design, which once in a while presents a unique piece of art to the world, is currently making a modern version of the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Shooting Brake from 1975. Where the unique original was based on the Ferrari that is popularly known as Ferrari Daytona, this time a Ferrari 599 GTB (2006-2012) serves as the base.
Earlier we were presented several times with sketches of the last work of art by the Dutch coachbuilder, but now it’s about the real thing. Niels van Roij shares a series of photos of a 599 treated with clay on Twitter. In addition to the clearly raised rear – it is a shooting brake after all – this clay model also shows what will happen to the nose of the car.
That is interesting, because it shows how Van Roij wants the Daytona nose to return to the 599 base. It seems that the hood should close a little higher. The ‘catches’ of the hood are therefore mounted higher, so that the front of the hood is higher when closed than with an original 599. The front fenders must of course be adapted to this new situation and also get a different shape with the necessary padding.

The ‘hole’ that arises under the ‘opened’ hood offers space for a Daytona-like light. The original 599 headlights are therefore completely deleted. Van Roij notes that the cooling openings behind the front wheel also have to be replaced, but that is something for later in the process. We will of course keep you informed!
