The light version of the Google Maps app makes it possible to find an address and a route on Android mobile devices which lack power.
Google Maps is a handy app for browsing maps and finding routes. Unfortunately, it is resource intensive and can be slow on Android smartphones with low power processors or with little memory. It can also be a problem if the internet connection is not good. Fortunately, there is a light version of this app called Google Maps Go. It certainly offers fewer functions but is perfect for basic use. Here is an overview.
1- Download Google Maps Go
The app is not officially available on the Google Play application store in France. It must therefore be downloaded in the form of an APK file. This is done with the Internet browser. After downloading the file, open it if your browser offers it. Otherwise, launch your file manager, go to the downloads folder (Download) and tap on the entry starting with com.google.android.apps.mapslite. Then tap on To install then on To open to launch the app.

2 – Find an address
- The app start window has three areas. The map is displayed at the top while the routes are in the middle. Map detail options are at the bottom. To find an address, just enter it in the search box at the top.

- Tap the target button to position the map on your current location.
- When the map is in full screen, a button at the bottom allows you to return to the start screen. However, it is not possible to download the map to use it without an Internet connection.

- At the top left, an icon made up of three horizontal bars gives access to the menu and allows, for example, to display on the map a satellite image, traffic, cycle paths and public transport.

3 – define a route
- In the start window, tap the icon of the means of transport (by car, on foot or by public transport), then enter the address of your destination. The map is then displayed with the duration of the journey. You can change the starting point by typing it in the box marked Your position.

- Finally, touch the button ITINERARY from the bottom to get the detailed route.
