More and more people in Europe are opting for an electric car. Just over 350,000 EVs were sold in the first half of 2021, up from 150,000 in the same period of 2020. In some countries, numbers doubled, even in a shrinking market. Renault has been producing electric cars for more than ten years and it is not for nothing that the Renault Zoe E-Tech electric again became the market leader in 2020.
Electric driving is more current than ever, Renault has had this specialization for much longer and therefore already has a wealth of experience in that area. After the production start about ten years ago, the counter in 2019 was already at 200,000 units and in 2020 alone, Renault sold 100,000 units of the still very popular Renault Zoe E-Tech electric. With a driving range of 395 kilometres, this model is Europe’s best-selling electric car of the last 8 years. Renault has the ambition to build 400,000 electric cars per year and the next step has been taken with the creation of Renault ElectriCity, in which four northern French factories join forces.
Know-how from Formula 1
It is not known to everyone that Formula 1 is not only a spectacular branch of motorsport but also a nursery for many technologies that find their way into production cars. Did you know that the current F1 cars of the Renault team (and that of Alpine) use hybrid technology? As a result, these racing cars consume less fuel and accelerate faster. The advanced way of energy recovery and energy storage can be found in Renault’s electric and hybrid models.
Clear future strategy
Renault’s strategy is fully focused on electrification, which is already reflected in its range of fully electric commercial and passenger cars, hybrids and plug-in hybrids. With this clean form of mobility, Renault is future-proof and thus contributes to the further reduction of CO2 emissions.
A look into the future: Renault Megane E-Tech electric
Renault is now entering a second phase with the development and production of fully electric cars. The Megane eVision concept car was shown for the first time at the end of 2020, it is now almost production-ready and will be named Renault Megane E-Tech electric, a brand new, 100% electric spacious crossover with a range of 470 kilometers and a 217 hp electric motor. This is now being tested intensively and the final version will be unveiled later this year.
Renault has already made the choice for zero-emission mobility. Not you yet? Then visit the Renault dealer and let a test drive convince you of the many advantages of electric driving!
