Rumor: ‘Huawei is developing its own Apple Airtag’

Huawei has registered a trademark for its own response to Airtag. It would be Huawei S-Tag, a smart tag with which you can find your bag, for example, thanks to a Bluetooth connection.

Huawei S-Tag

LetsGoDigital writes that Huawei has registered a trademark in Europe. It would be the Huawei S-Tag. It is likely that it is a Bluetooth tracker, because the major competitors Apple and Samsung have both announced their own variant of these trackers this year. Samsung has the Galaxy SmartTag and Apple the AirTag. Oppo would also be working on a tag, called Oppo Smart Tag.

Such a tracker is a device that resembles a key ring and is linked to your smartphone. This way, your smartphone can always show where the tag is located via Bluetooth. So smart to put it in a bag or hang it on your car keys, if you ever lose track of them.

S for Smart

Huawei filed the trademark with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) on October 28, 2021. The expectation is that ‘S’ stands for smart, because it is connected to your smartphone and therefore falls under the ‘smart’ devices. In addition, the description states: “Smartwatches; smart glasses; smart rings; computer programs, downloadable computer software programs; wearable activity trackers; data processing apparatus; pedometer; smart phones; measuring apparatus; apparatus for use in medical analysis.

Basically, it’s about smart watches, smart glasses, smart rings, computer programs. downloadable computer software, wearable activity trackers, data processing equipment, pedometers, smartphones, measurement and medical analysis equipment. It looks like it can go in many directions. Also striking: electric tag is not an option, while that was the case with Samsung’s registration for its Galaxy SmartTag last year.

Is it a tag?

Would it be something else then? A smart watch with medical applications, for example? It sounds illogical, because S-Tag really sounds like a smart tag and Huawei already has a line of smart watches. There is a good chance that it will be announced when Huawei also unveils its new smart watch.
