Honda Integra Type R – Into the Wild

Honda Integra Type R – Into the Wild

Honda and Acura are using the model name Integra again for a new model. The last car to bear the name was this Honda Integra, which went through life in America as the Acura RSX. We’ve got our hands on the toughest version right away!

The fourth generation of the Integra saw the light of day in 2001 and eventually ran until 2006, with a facelift in 2004. After that, the name disappeared from the model range. After fifteen years, Honda takes the model name Integra off the shelves again, for Acura it has been even longer. Now it is no longer a coupe, but the Integra is a slightly revised variant of the Honda Civic Sedan. For fans of the Integra of yesteryear, that may be a disappointing fact.

Incidentally, the new Integra is not coming to the Netherlands. The fourth and penultimate generation was also not available here through the official Honda dealer network. The Integras that drive around here have therefore been brought to our country by enthusiasts, of which this blue Type R – the top model of the series – is a striking example. Colleague Lars Krijgsman parked his Buick Park Avenue next to it and took these snapshots of the duo. This example is no stranger to us, because it was previously featured in the ‘Op de Rollenbank’ section. After the test, it turned out that the naturally aspirated 2.0 i-VTEC squeezed out 221 hp, 1 hp more than the manufacturer’s specification. According to the data from the RDW, the car now seems to have changed hands.

The Type R stands out in the first place because of its huge spoiler. Furthermore, the top version has thicker bumpers than the standard Integra and the furniture in the interior consists of Recaro sports seats. In the episode of ‘Op de Rollenbank’, the then owner indicated that he was considering mounting a different exhaust under it, something that appears to have happened based on the smaller muffler in the photos. Furthermore, the white wheels have been exchanged for a set of silver ones. A unique appearance!
