Warning sound when pressing Caps Lock

Warning sound when pressing Caps Lock

Suddenly you are only typing capital letters; accidentally pressed Caps Lock. It happens to everyone. Set a warning beep and avoid annoyance.

The Caps Lock key is the cecum of the keyboard. It may have been useful in the past, but today it is a redundant part. It has only one function: to write everything in capital letters. A feature you never actually use. But that Caps Lock key is awkwardly placed on the left side of the keyboard, so you can easily turn it on accidentally. Without realizing it, you type an entire piece in capital letters. Or, in despair that a password is not accepted, you suddenly realize that Caps Lock is on.

  • Click the Start button.
  • click on Institutions (cogwheel icon).
  • The settings menu opens. click on Accessibility.
  • Click under ‘Interaction’ on Keyboard.
  • In Windows 10, there is a slider under ‘Use toggle keys’. In Windows 11, this slider is located behind ‘Toggle keys’. Click on this when it says ‘Off’.
  • The slider will turn blue and the word ‘On’ will appear behind it. From now on, a high-pitched beep will sound when a Caps Lock is turned on and a slightly lower tone when turned off.

You will hear the sound when you press the Caps Lock key. But also when you press the Num Lock key. That will almost never happen by accident. Located on the right side of the keyboard, this key turns the numeric section to the right of the keyboard on or off.

You hear no sound? Then check your sound settings.

  • Next to the Start button, click the magnifying glass icon.
  • Type ‘Control Panel’.
  • click on Control Panel.
  • click on Hardware and Sound. (If you don’t see this, first click at the top right behind ‘View on’ on Category.)
  • Under ‘Sound’, click Adjust system volume.
  • Verify that at ‘Syst. sounds’ the slider is raised far enough.
