Just pulling a USB cable out of the opening of the computer is unwise; the connected device may be damaged.
Safely remove USB
It is therefore not convenient to simply pull the USB connection from the computer. But there is also a good and safe way to disconnect devices that are connected to the Windows computer with a USB cable.
- When a USB-connected device is connected to the computer, the icon . appears in the Taskbar on the right
. Click on the triangle first
if you don’t see the icon.
- Right click on the icon.
- An overview of all devices connected via USB opens. In black letters it says ‘Device name eject’. Click on the connection you want to disconnect.
You can now safely remove the device from the USB port, for example an external hard drive or USB stick.
