Clear search history

Clear search historyWhile surfing the web, the web browser keeps track of which sites you visit. You can delete the list of visited websites.

Web browsers save in an overview when you visit which websites. That is sometimes very useful, because you can quickly find visited websites. But those who share the PC, smartphone or tablet with others may not want them to see what you do online. Then delete the search history, also known as browsing or surfing history.

  • Open the browser Chrome.
  • Click on the icon of the three dots in the top right Menu in Chrome.
  • A menu opens. click on History > History.
  • Click on the left Clear browsing data.
  • Click on the drop-down menu behind ‘Period’.
  • Select from which point you want to delete the browsing history, for example All the time.
  • Put a tick in front of Browsing history if there is no check mark here. Uncheck any other check marks by clicking on them.
  • click on Delete information.
  • Open the web browser Edge.
  • Click on the icon of three dots in the top right Settings in Edge.
  • click on Institutions.
  • Under ‘Clear browsing data’, click Choose what to delete.
  • Put a tick in front of Browsing history if there is no check mark here. Uncheck any other check marks by clicking on them.
  • click on To clear.
  • Open the Firefox browser.
  • Click the three dashes icon at the top right Delete browsing history in Firefox.
  • click on History.
  • click on Clear Recent History.
  • Click on the drop-down menu next to ‘Time period to delete’.
  • Select from which point you want to clear browsing history, for example Everything.
  • Put a tick in front of Form & Search History if there is no check mark here. Uncheck other options if necessary.
  • click on OK.
  • Open the Internet Explorer browser
  • Click the gear icon at the top right Delete browsing history in Internet Explorer.
  • click on Internet options.
  • A window opens. Under ‘Browsing history’, click remove.
  • Put a tick in front of History if this check is not already there.
  • click on remove.
  • click on To apply.
  • Open the Safari web browser.
  • Click at the top History. You may not see this, in that case move your mouse to the top part of the page. Then the bar appears with, among other things, ‘History’.
  • Click in the menu on Clear history.
  • Click on the drop-down menu next to ‘Delete’.
  • Select from which point you want to delete the history, for example whole history.
  • click on Clear history.
  • Open the Safari app.
  • Tap the open book icon View history on iPhone and iPad.
  • Tap a clock icon Delete browsing history.
  • Tap on Erase.
  • Choose from which point you want to delete the history, for example All the time.
  • Tap at the top right if necessary Ready.
  • Open the Google Chrome app.
  • Tap the three dots icon at the bottom right (iPhone) or top right (iPad).
  • Tap on History.
  • Tap on Clear browsing data.
  • Tap on Browsing history if there is no blue check mark behind it yet.
  • Tap on Clear browsing data > Browsing data wissen.
  • At the top right, tap Ready > Ready.
  • Open the Google Chrome app.
  • Tap the three dots icon at the top right.
  • Tap on History.
  • Tap on Clear browsing data.
  • Tap on Browsing history.
  • A white check mark will appear behind ‘Browsing history’. After ‘Period’, tap the drop-down menu and then the period for which you want to delete the history.
  • Tap at the bottom right Delete information > To clear.

Delete the search history on Samsung devices (from Android 5.0) in the following way:

  • Open the Web app.
  • Tap the three dots icon at the top right.
  • Tap on Institutions > Privacy.
  • Tap on Delete search data or Delete personal data.
  • Put a check before or after Browsing history if this check is not already there.
  • Tap on remove.
