WhatsApp ends support for various old phones. You can then no longer use the chat service on these smartphones. Which phones are involved?

If you want to use WhatsApp on an iPhone, you now need at least iOS 10. The iPhone 5 from 2012 is the oldest device that still runs on this version of the operating system. If you have an older iPhone, for example an iPhone 4 or 4S, you can no longer use WhatsApp.

Do you have a android phone then it must run at least on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This operating system was released in March 2012, so it is now about nine years old. In 2012, the Samsung Galaxy S3, LG Nexus 4 and the HTC One X were launched.

Tablets

WhatsApp is also tightening support for Android tablets. The chat service speaks of “limited support” for tablets with an active SIM card, while devices with only Wi-Fi are no longer supported at all. There is also still no separate tablet version of WhatsApp, although Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says he has been working on this for a while. However, there are some unofficial apps that mimic WhatsApp.

Check version

To check which version of the Android operating system your smartphone is running on, you can go to the Settings app. Scroll down and tap Over the phone and with Software version you can see which version your phone is running on. Incidentally, the wording can differ slightly per telephone. With Samsung phones, for example, you can find the version number in the settings under Info phone Bee model name.

If you have an iPhone, you can also go to the Settings app to check the operating system version. At the bottom of the screen, tap General and then on Info. rear Software version see which version your phone is running on.

WhatsApp often drops support for older operating systems. For example, support for Windows 10 Mobile has already expired and WhatsApp no ​​longer works on older operating systems such as Windows Phone, BlackBerry OS and more.

Change

If your phone is no longer supported, WhatsApp recommends purchasing a new device. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to transfer your chat history from WhatsApp to a new phone with an old device or to export it as an email attachment.
