iPad mini (2021): 5 tips and tricks

The iPad mini (2021), in combination with iPadOS 15, is the highlight for me personally in the tablet field. That doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone, of course, but the small size and high specifications hit the nail on the head for me. If that is also the case for you, and you have purchased the tablet, then this article is for you. I have listed five wonderful tips and tricks for you to help you get the most out of this little hero.

#1 Extend battery life

Using the iPad mini (2021) is very nice, but honesty requires me to say that the battery life could be a little better. Although of course you are always, to a certain extent, still in control. There are a number of tricks that allow you to use the battery of your tablet for longer. One of the tricks is to disable background app refresh. This simply consumes quite a bit of energy and is therefore good to switch off. You do that by going to Settings -> General -> Background Refresh and select for the option From.

#2 iPad mini (2021): the note king

Anyone who has purchased the iPad mini (2021) really does have a Note King. This model has proven in recent months that it lends itself perfectly to this type of business. For example, thanks to Quick Notes, a functionality that iPadOS 15 brings, it is possible to quickly create a note. Something that can be done very well by means of the Apple Pencil support.

It is also good to know that you can put certain notes, for example with sensitive information, under lock and key. You do that by going to Notes -> Note -> three dots at the top -> Lock to go. You will then see a screen where you can enter a password and a mnemonic. It is also possible to enable Face ID.

#3 Use Focus

When I look at the nicest features in iPadOS 15 that I use almost every day, Focus Mode is high on the list. It ensures that I have exactly the right apps available at the right times and that I am not disturbed by certain notifications. For example, I set up a work profile during working hours and a personal profile in my spare time. Ideal!

You set the functionality by going to Settings -> Focus to go. Select the appropriate mode here and adjust it completely to your liking.

#4 iPad mini (2021): no noise

Anyone who uses their iPad mini (2021) a lot for video calling will undoubtedly be able to enjoy the new FaceTime features. A good example of this is the Voice Isolation functionality. This mutes sounds in the background and the program focuses purely on your voice. Ideal, because this way you can be understood a lot better.

During this go to FaceTime -> Start a call -> Press the microphone and select Voice isolation.

#5 Everything in the cloud

You can save files on your iPad mini (2021) not only locally, but of course also in the cloud. The best way to do this is of course via iCloud, although there are plenty of other services that you can use. Think of OneDrive, DropBox and Google Drive. Services that you can also easily link to the Files app of your iPad mini (2021).

To do this, open the Files-app and go to Browse -> The three dots in the top right corner -> Edit. It is now possible to disable and enable services.
