The number of foldable smartphones sold has tripled this year. Samsung, among others, reports that it has shipped more than three times as many foldables this year compared to last year. The company now controls 93% of the foldables market.

According to a report by DSCC Samsung currently has a 93% market share in the ‘foldable smartphone market’. According to the company, this is partly due to the good sales figures of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. These devices already sold more often in one month than the Z Fold 2 and the Z Flip 2 that did in total.
Last October there was already the news that the new generation of foldables from Samsung had been sold one million times. This made the devices among the fastest-selling smartphones in South Korea. And that these phones would do well, we could already deduce from the pre-order figures of the devices.
‘Increase will continue’
DSCC further reports that the number of foldable smartphones shipped has tripled in the third quarter of this year, and that it expects this to rise further and that Samsung will lead the way. The company expects that Samsung will have a market share of 95% by the end of this year. Other brands such as Huawei and OPPO are expected to have a market share of about 3 to 5 percent.
Although we expect that this could change in 2022. OPPO is currently investing a lot in the development of foldables and introduced its Find N. Spotting in the wild
