Scuderia AlphaTauri, next to Red Bull Racing the second team in Formula 1 to belong to Red Bull, presents its new Formula 1 car. With the AT03, the team hopes to get closer to the top teams in the Formula 1 season of 2022.

AlphaTauri presented the AT03 online. The Italian team’s new Formula 1 car has a livery that is very reminiscent of last year’s, but of course there is a lot different due to the new regulations. The AT03 that we now see seems to be quite the ‘real thing’, although there will undoubtedly be many more aerodynamic gadgets on the car for the season start on Sunday 20 March in Bahrain. It is a big plus that AlphaTauri immediately shares a large series of photos. That gives a slightly better idea of what the 2022 cars will look like in action.

As in previous years, AlphaTauri uses a 1.6 V6 from Honda, the same specification as that in the Red Bull RB18. The power source is still built by Honda itself, only Honda has stepped into the background as an engine supplier. That is why – just like with Red Bull – there are no longer Honda markings on the car. However, a subtle HRC logo (Honda Racing Corporation) on the back of the side of the car still refers to the ties with the Japanese car manufacturer.

AlphaTauri can look back on a fairly successful 2021 season with drivers Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda, finishing seventh in the Constructors’ Championship and taking one podium place. However, the team hopes for more than that. In 2019, when the stable was still called Toro Rosso, it had its best season since 2008, finishing sixth in the constructors’ standings. The team, where Max Verstappen made his F1 debut in 2015, can at least count on parts from Red Bull Racing to take a step forward. In the past, parts from the previous RB car were often taken over, this year it concerns current parts, including the gearbox.
