Since November, it has been possible to charge your non-Tesla at certain Tesla Supercharger locations in the Netherlands. This Pilot seems to have succeeded, because Tesla has tacitly opened all Supercharger locations in our country to other EVs.
Who on Tesla’s location finder Selecting ‘Superchargers for non-Tesla’s’ has seen all locations light up in our country since today. Our country is once again leading the way, because in November the Netherlands was already the first country in the world where this was even possible. The Pilot has been expanded to Belgium, Germany, France and Norway, but still limited. In the Netherlands, apparently, all brakes are now released.
Tesla does not provide an explanation, and it is a bit too late to come up with answers. However, a logical explanation would be that the pilot was successful and that the brand finds the capacity in our country sufficient to take this step. Tesla earns well from it, because other EV drivers pay considerably more than Tesla drivers with €0.68 per kWh.
Yet it is still advantageous, because with most competitors you will lose even more. In addition, it is possible to lower the price with a monthly subscription. For €12.99 per month, drivers of an EV from a brand other than Tesla suddenly pay 29 cents per kWh. In all cases, activating the charging station is done via the Tesla app. A small practical limitation is, however, the length of the charging cable: it is of course long enough for Teslas, but some other cars have to twist into impossible bends to be able to charge at a Supercharger ‘stall’.
