iPhone SE 2022: Differences from iPhone SE 2020 (should you switch?)

The iPhone SE 2022 is coming, but is it smart to switch right away? iPhoned List the differences between the iPhone SE 2022 and the iPhone SE 2020 for you.

iPhone SE 2022 differences

The iPhone SE 2022 is (hopefully) coming soon, but what are the differences with the previous SE? We have put together all the rumors about the successor to the iPhone SE 2020.

The iPhone SE 2022 will get these improvements

Under the hood, the new iPhone SE 2022 has a few improvements. According to the latest rumors, we will see these upgrades again.

1. Faster Processor

The new device will have a faster processor than its predecessor, the iPhone SE 2020. This will probably be the A15 Bionic that you will also find in the iPhone 13. The iPhone SE 2020 has an A13 chip, which is also in the iPhone 11.

2. Support for 5G

One of the other differences between the iPhone SE 2022 and the previous version is the support for 5G. The advantage of 5G is limited at the moment. Internet with 5G is often faster, but only really fast if you have an iPhone with mmWave 5G and the 3.5 GHz frequency is released. The current iPhone 2020 SE only supports 4G.

The 5G frequency was initially supposed to be auctioned in April 2022, but this has been postponed. It is not yet known when the frequency will now be auctioned to the telecom companies. The iPhone 14 is probably the first in the Netherlands to support the super-fast mmWave frequencies.

And the iPhone SE 2022 won’t get these improvements

Much remains the same with the iPhone SE 2022. According to the rumors, the iPhone SE 2022 will not get these improvements.

1. No Face ID

The iPhone SE 2022 will probably get the look of the iPhone SE 2020. That means the smartphone still has a home button. Touch ID is also present again. Unfortunately, there is no trace of Face ID. The iPhone SE 3 also has a 4.7-inch LCD display, just like its older brother from 2020.

2. Working memory stays the same

The working memory would also not have been tinkered with. So we expect the iPhone SE 2022 to have 3GB of RAM again.

3. No MagSafe

Wireless charging via MagSafe, as is possible with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, is probably not included. There are rumors that the iPhone SE 2022 will support ‘normal’ wireless charging.

4. Camera: no improvements

Unfortunately, not much is known about the camera of the Apple’s latest budget model. There will probably be a single camera on the back of the device, just like with the iPhone SE 2020. We secretly hope that there are still a few differences between the camera of the iPhone SE 2022 and the iPhone SE 2020.

iPhone SE 2022 price

The price will probably be about the same as the iPhone SE 2020, which was sold for 489 euros. The expected prices for the iPhone SE 2022 are.

  • iPhone SE 2022 64GB: 489 euros
  • iPhone SE 2022 128GB: 539 euros
  • iPhone SE 2022 256GB: 659 euros

Release iPhone SE 2022

Apple often makes the first product reveals of a year in March, but last year that was in mid-April. However, we think there is a good chance that Apple will organize the event again in March this year.

According to the very knowledgable Mark Gurman of Bloomberg is Tuesday, March 8, the first Apple event of 2022. The Apple insider also revealed which products we can expect. This will probably also be the iPhone SE 2022.

iPhone SE 2022 Differences: Reason to Switch?

Are the improvements of the iPhone SE 2022 a reason to switch from an iPhone SE 2020? If we only look at the well-known rumors, probably not. However, if you still have an iPhone SE 2016, the release of the iPhone SE 2022 is an excellent time to ‘upgrade’ again.
