The iPhone will probably get a USB-C connection next year, instead of Lightning. Apple accessories also seem to make the jump to this universal port, including the AirPods and the Magic Keyboard.
Switch to usb-c
This reports the reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on Twitter. Last week he revealed that the latest iPhones of 2023 (probably called the iPhone 15) may have a USB-C connection.
Such a connection has many advantages, including faster charging speeds and faster data transfer. Another advantage is that most iPads and the MacBook also have USB-C, as do many other devices. You then only need one charger to provide them with power.
AirPods and other Apple accessories with USB-C
Less practical is that many Apple accessories still have a Lightning connection, such as the AirPods, Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, MagSafe Battery Pack and more. But not for long, Kuo suggests on Twitter. These accessories would also make the switch to USB-C in the near future.
Kuo also writes in his tweet that it is still too early for Apple to release a portless iPhone. This is due to the current limitations of wireless technologies and the immaturity of Apple’s proprietary MagSafe ecosystem. MagSafe is a technique that magnetically attaches wireless accessories to iPhone 12 and newer.
Mark Gurman – another reliable Apple analyst – also has news about Apple’s USB-C plans. The company would develop a new adapter. This adapter allows an iPhone with USB-C to work with accessories that have a Lightning connection. So you can continue to use your Lightning accessories.
