In May, Sony announced its Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 10 IV. The big absentee was the successor to the Xperia 5 III (999 euros). Details about this device have now surfaced and they promise more significant improvements.
Sony Xperia 5 IV
The Xperia 1 IV is a top device and the Xperia 5 IV will be positioned just below this top device, just like last year. The first rumors about this device promise many improvements.
Sony’s upcoming compact flagship could, according to AndroidHeadlines get a 6.1-inch screen and be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 gen 1 processor. The same chipset as that of the Xperia 1 IV and therefore not the plus variant of this chipset.
Meanwhile, the company pairs the chipset with a maximum of 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage memory, which corresponds to the memory of the Xperia 1 IV. Last year’s model got 8 GB of RAM.
Same cameras
The Xperia 5 IV takes another feature from the Xperia 1 IV and that is the camera setup. So this means that this phone has a 12 megapixel main camera with dual-pixel PDAF (phase-detection autofocus) and OIS (optical image stabilization). The 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens also offers dual-pixel PDAF and so does the third 12-megapixel telephoto camera. The latter enables 3.5X-5.2X continuous optical zoom. On the front is a 12-megapixel selfie camera.
There is also talk of a 5,000mAh battery and support for wireless charging. It is unknown whether the phone will come with Android 13. It is possible that the phone will be available in the shops much later. Android 13 will only be officially announced in the fall.
