Fiat tests production version ‘Fastback SUV’

We don’t experience that every day with a new Fiat. Soon it will be time, because the Italian brand is making a somewhat obscure record of a new, hip model through Instagram. You probably already guessed what the catch is.

The Instagram page on which we found this photo is not that of the Fiat headquarters. Instead, we look after a post from @fiatbr, or the immense department that this brand has in Brazil. That does not necessarily mean that the car in question is only sold in South America, but it can be given the large differences between the Brazilian and the European offer.

Anyway: Fiat is working on a new model. Although the car on the teaser plate seems a bit BMW-like to us, it does look like a Fiat. By this we mean the Fiat Fastback SUV Concept from 2018, of which the car currently shown is the production version. It doesn’t look like much has to change for that. We see a similar silhouette, which some would describe as that of a ‘coupé SUV’. A clearly sloping roofline, for a smooth appearance and better aerodynamics. The stubborn ‘jump’ in the shoulder line has happily disappeared from the production model. The extra side window behind the rear door also shines through its absence, making the eventual Fiat Fastback SUV perhaps less elongated than its predecessor.

Nevertheless, this seems to be a serious-looking car, in the middle of a worldwide popular segment. This could also be a great rival for us, for example the Renault Arkana, so we will keep our spirits up for a while.
