After a short career with the Hyundai Motor Group, the Belgian car designer Luc Donckerwolke has resigned. It is still unclear what he will do next.
In 2015 Donckerwolke made the switch from the Volkswagen Group to the South Korean group. There he immediately got to work on the design of models for Hyundai and Genesis. Three years later, the Belgian was bombed as chief designer of the entire car group. As a result, he also led the design of new Kias. As of today, Donckerwolke explains Automotive News Europe his work down for personal reasons.
For the past five years, the designer has been working on the new ’emotional’ design of cars. He wanted to get rid of the family face and focused on the individual lines per model. He led the new “Sensuous Sportiness” design style that can be found on the new Sonata and Palisade. At Genesis he left his mark on the new front of the cars with the double row of headlights. Previously, he worked at the Volkswagen Group on new Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Seats. It is unclear what his next step will be in his career.
The Hyundai Motor Group will no longer have the function of Donckerwolke and the Hyundai, Genesis and Kia brands will again have their own designers. At Hyundai and Genesis, SangYup Lee continues his current work as chief designer, at Kia Karim Habib is in control.
