The Google Play Store will get a new look in the coming days if you use a watch with Wear OS. The design is more visually appealing and should encourage smartwatch users to use more apps.

With the launch of the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro last month, we were already able to get our first glimpse of a new look from the Google Play Store. Now Google is also rolling out the design to the first Wear OS users, you know that 9To5Googlewhich publishes images of the interface.
The old app store appearance had a lot of unappealing text for a smartwatch app, and Google has changed that. The app’s home screen now shows colorful cards for categories such as Watch faces, Stream music, and Essential apps for your watch. It is also noticeable that the search button is no longer round, but pill-shaped. That fits better with the design in Wear OS 3.

In addition, it is striking that Google now also recommends apps from the home screen – if you scroll down – based on their rating and your interests. Google seems to be encouraging users to give more apps a chance on their watch. That’s a logical move, because if it succeeds, Google can also show developers better figures about the Play Store, making them more inclined to release Wear OS apps. Finally, at the very bottom you will find a button for the settings and an option that shows you all installed apps of your watch.
The Play Store design is part of version 31.2.10-26 of Wear OS, but Google is activating the changes with a so-called servers-side update.
