What does the treatment of a speech therapist entail?

Asker: Merle, 11 years old

Answer

What the speech therapist does depends on what you are going for. A speech therapist can provide treatment for learning disabilities (dyslexia, dyscalculia), but it can also involve speech problems, language problems, hearing disorders, stuttering, and so on.

The speech therapist will always start by investigating what someone can and cannot do (testing) and then start treatment if necessary.

For learning disabilities, that person will then look at the weak and strong sides of reading, spelling, math and then learn step by step what someone is not yet able to do (by mainly working on the building blocks of learning – so it is not about real tutoring , but for remedy).
