As many as 199,419 motorcycles and trikes were affected by the recall in the United States, according to documents from the NHTSA – 31,572 2019-2022 Trike and CVO Trike motorcycles and 167,847 2020-2022 Touring and CVO Touring motorcycles.

After receiving reports from the field of brake lights remaining on, the Harley-Davidson Technical Subcommittee launched an extensive investigation last year, requesting the affected parts from dealers and contacting the supplier.

Based on the information and data available at the time (including the low number of incidents and the fact that the problem seemed to go away on its own), the TSC (Technical Subcommittee) decided to close the investigation and take no further action.

However, the investigation reopened in May this year, after receiving multiple reports that it was much more common than initially estimated. In the assembly plant, the software was modified, eliminating the potential problem. The TSC kept its finger on the pulse in the months that followed.

Owners of affected motorcycles are advised to contact an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer who will rectify the problem at no charge. The dealer will perform a software update and install a new pressure switch on the affected Trike and CVO Trike models.
