The next major interim iPhone update will be released next month: iOS 16.2. Apple has now released the second beta. What’s new in this update?
iOS 16.2
With iOS 16.1, Apple released a major interim update to iOS 16 last month. And also with iOS 16.2 – which is expected to be released in December – a lot of new features are coming to the iPhone. This became apparent two weeks ago from the first iOS 16.2 beta.
For example, with iOS 16.2, Apple is introducing a completely new app: Freeform. This is a digital whiteboard where you brainstorm, sketch or design with others in real time. In addition to drawing, you can also add photos, videos, sounds, PDFs, web links, and documents.
New in iOS 16 is that you can place widgets on the lock screen and with iOS 16.2 you have even more choice. There will be a Sleep widget for the lock screen. There are also improvements for HomeKit, where smart devices work more stable thanks to a new architecture. Furthermore, Stage Manager is expanded in iPadOS 16.2, where you can also use the function with external screens. You do need an iPad with an M1 or M2 chip for this.
What’s New in iOS 16.2 Beta 2?
In the second beta of iOS 16.2, Apple mainly fixed some bugs that were discovered in the first test version. The most notable change is the introduction of a Medicine widget for the entrance screen. So you can see from the lock screen when to take the next medicine.
iOS 16.2 is expected to be released in December, so it’s still a bit of a wait for the release. However, you can get started with the new features of iOS 16.1, including Live Activities and ‘Shared iCloud Library’.
