The first generation of the now hugely popular Toyota RAV4 was delivered in the Netherlands as the FunCruiser. There is now one of these in our used car range that looks very good: a great opportunity.

The current fifth-generation Toyota RAV4 came on the market at the end of 2018 and is doing very well in the Netherlands – but especially worldwide -. The car not only benefits from the popularity of the SUV segment, but also wins over many fans of ratio with its economical hybrid powertrain. The occasion for which we are looking for an enthusiast today will not easily succeed. Four-wheel drive, a ‘big’ engine and a relatively impractical body shape make the FunCruiser not so much an easily defendable purchase. Nevertheless, we would like to convince you that it is also far from unwise.

Good: the Toyota FunCruiser will not be too economical due to its 4×4 and 2-liter block and we also dare to doubt whether you can reasonably take it for a long holiday trip with four people and a lot of luggage. On the other hand, the FunCruiser with 1,150 kg clean on the hook is by no means a heavyweight and you should also be able to have enough fun off the beaten track due to the four-wheel drive. Moreover, the 2-liter with injection produces a nice 129 hp, so that the Toyota only needs a little more than 10 seconds to hit 100 km / h.

The 28-year-old FunCruiser will probably still be happy to do that for you, because the Toyota engines from this period are known to be endlessly reliable. You can count on it that as the owner of this car you will regularly receive tickets from traders under your windshield wiper who will gladly export it for you to an African country.

Double tilt roof

By the way, you would only be the second owner of this FunCruiser, because only the person who bought the car in 1994 – the first year that the RAV4 was on the market – from a Dutch Toyota dealer preceded you. He must have parked the car in a garage, because it still looks passable – both outside and inside. The FunCruiser has been neatly polished by the provider, has a nice color and appears to be completely free of damage. On the inside we only see a somewhat tired driver’s seat cheek, but that’s forgiven. Even the wheel nuts and the hinges and locks of the doors are still free of flash rust.

You understand: we can go on talking about this FunCruiser for a while. Not only because of the condition it is in, but also because of the many nice details. What about the double tilting roof? And those toy car proportions? Anyway. The JL-ZZ-32 has run 136,844 kilometers, does not need the MOT again until the end of next year, is for sale in Ingen (province of Utrecht) and should yield €5,950. An excellent price for an enthusiast, in our opinion. He can then quickly look for a set of original floor mats to finish it off.
