Apple threatens to remove Twitter from the App Store – Elon Musk is angry

Tensions between Apple and Twitter CEO Elon Musk are rising. According to Musk, Apple is now threatening to remove Twitter from the App Store. What are the chances of this actually happening?

Tensions between Apple and Musk are rising

Apple and Twitter seem to be becoming less and less a good combination. Employees of both companies are criticizing each other and Musk is now accusing Apple of threatening to remove Twitter from the App Store.

Earlier, Musk had commented on Apple’s in-app purchases and the taxes involved. Apple did not immediately respond to this at the time. However, App Store CEO Phil Schiller recently deleted his Twitter account after the takeover by Elon Musk. This happened just after former President Donald Trump was allowed back on the platform.

Musk: Apple threatens to remove Twitter from the App Store

In a recent Tweet, Musk added even more fuel to the fire. Musk accuses Apple of threatening to remove Twitter from the App Store. He provides no proof of this and does not state a reason, so the question is to what extent this message is actually correct.

The reason for the tweet may be Tim Cook’s statement. The Apple CEO stated that he assumes that Twitter will continue to moderate to prevent inappropriate messages. This goes against the principle of Musk, who wants all opinions and messages to have a place on the platform.

Will Twitter really be removed from the App Store?

Whether Twitter is actually removed depends mainly on Musk’s next steps. After all, apps must meet certain App Store guidelines. An important guideline is to avoid inappropriate messages. If Twitter removes all forms of moderation, the app will no longer comply with this guideline.

In that case, it is conceivable that Twitter – after a number of warnings – will first be temporarily removed from the App Store. The platform may then return if it meets the guidelines again. If this is not the case yet, there is a good chance that Twitter will be permanently banned from the App Store.

Musk plans to release his own phone

Should it come to the point that Twitter is permanently removed from the App Store, Musk says he plans to release a new phone. The rumors about a Tesla phone have been circulating for some time, but then it really seems to be happening.

The Twitter chaos is therefore far from recovered and more and more parties are urging Musk to intervene on the platform. The new changes announced on Twitter are a first attempt to restore calm, but time will tell if that will actually happen.
