Mercedes Benz eSprinter 2023

Mercedes-Benz has a technically thoroughly revised eSprinter in the pipeline. This new electric commercial vehicle promises to have a considerably larger range than the current model.

Since mid-2020, the commercial vehicle branch of Mercedes-Benz has had an electric version of the Sprinter in its delivery range. That Mercedes-Benz eSprinter has an electric range of 142 kilometers. This means that the eSprinter, like various other large electric commercial vehicles, is primarily not intended for daily long journeys. In February, however, Mercedes-Benz will present a new eSprinter, which promises to be a lot more versatile.

Mercedes-Benz has had a prototype of the new eSprinter drive from the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart to Munich Airport in one go, a journey of 475 kilometers without recharging in between. During that trip, an average consumption of 21.9 kWh per 100 kilometers was recorded. On arrival, the remaining range was still about 20 kilometers.

New platform

The new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter will be available with three different battery packs and will of course be supplied in numerous length and height versions. The basis of the new eSprinter is striking. The new Vans Electric Versatility Platform (VAN.EA) is hidden under the bodywork, in which the brand has invested €350 million. From 2025, all medium-sized and large electric commercial vehicles must be on this new modular EV base intended for commercial vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz is not yet releasing technical specifications of the new eSprinter. It is known, however, that the new electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter will be presented in February and will run off the production line in Düsseldorf, Ludwigsfelde and Charleston, USA, from the second half of 2023. The eSprinter also makes the crossing to the United States for the first time.
