Electric Opel Corsa-e back to garage for emissions test

An electric car emits nothing. However? No CO2 anyway. Nevertheless, the electric Opel Corsa-e is returned to the garage because it cannot be demonstrated on the test benches that nothing comes out of the missing exhaust.

Opel is recalling 16,605 electric Corsa-e units worldwide to the garage. This is evident from information from the German Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), the German equivalent of the RDW.

The Corsa-e has to be returned to the garage because, according to the KBA, it is currently not possible to correctly read the car during a test bench measurement due to a software error, which must demonstrate that the car complies with the exhaust gas regulations. Special, since the Opel Corsa-e with its automobile birth certificate already proves to be an electric car. The Dutch importer indicates that the Corsa-e will receive a software update with which the correct data on the test bench can be read. It therefore seems to be a special formality. A German spokesperson tells German media that it is “[…] it must be possible for the government to perform a measurement on the test bench at any time” and that this is therefore not possible at the moment.

6,442 of the more than 16,600 Opel Corsa-e involved in the recall are driving around in Germany. At the time of writing, it is not yet known how many copies are involved in the Netherlands.
