No WhatsApp on these smartphones from January 1

Just like for 2021, for example, Whatsapp is now announcing which smartphones will no longer have a working Whatsapp for 2023. This popular app does this partly because: “Devices and software change often, so we regularly review which operating systems we support and update them. These devices may also not have the latest security updates, or may lack the functionality needed to run WhatsApp .”
From January 1, 2023, WhatsApp will no longer work on no less than 47 models of Android and iOS smartphones.

Upgrade
By discontinuing support for older operating systems, Whatsapp can better focus on supporting the latest systems: “As technology becomes more advanced, we regularly discontinue support for older operating systems so that we can dedicate ourselves to the latest versions of them . If we end support for your operating system, you will receive a message and multiple reminders to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp. We also regularly update this page to include the latest supported Android version.”

Warning and solution
If you have a smartphone that no longer supports Whatsapp from January 1, you will fortunately receive a message / warning before the app stops working. Hopefully you can still update your device to a newer version of the operating system (via Settings or the gear). Otherwise it will be buying a new(er) phone. Android and iPhones
From January 1, 2023, Whatsapp will no longer work on the iPhone 5 and 5C, because these Apple smartphones ‘only’ have iOS 12.1 as their operating system. Whatsapp will no longer work on a relatively large number of LG smartphones and also not on a number of smartphones from Samsung, Sony and Huawei, among others, because these devices do not have Android 4.1 (also known as Jelly Bean) from Google.
