Personalization is popular

Bentley will sell more cars than ever in 2022. Despite a sharp contraction in sales in China, the British managed to sell more than 15,000 cars in twelve months for the first time. 140 of them received a Dutch license plate.
The luxury brands are doing well. Yesterday we wrote that Rolls-Royce had a record year in 2022, today we do the same about Bentley. Both British brands also set sales records in 2021. And they did that again in 2022. For Bentley, the brand sold 4 percent more cars than in 2021, while that value at Rolls-Royce is no less than 8 percent.
In absolute numbers, however, Bentley experienced more growth. The brand sold more than 15,000 cars for the first time last year and came to a total of 15,174 units. In China, Bentley’s sales fell 9 percent year-on-year, but other markets made up for that. They all grew. The market Bentley calls “Americas” grew by less than 1 percent, but is still the largest with 4,212 new car customers. The markets of Europe, the United Kingdom (which sees the brand separately) and Asia-excluding China did grow strongly and compensated for the Chinese contraction – which was probably largely caused by the strict Covid-19 measures that have been in place until recently over there.
Bentley Bentayga
Bentley’s top seller is still the now six-year-old Bentayga, which also came on the market in 2022 as a version with an extended wheelbase. The SUV accounts for 42 percent of sales. The Continental follows with 30 percent, the Flying Spur with 28 percent. The brand also says that personalizing Bentleys is very popular. Over the past five years, the number of orders placed through the UK’s Mulliner division has increased fivefold.
