Grand Sport Electric. That is the new label that Opel abbreviates to GSe and sticks on the sporty plug-in hybrid versions of the Opel Astra and Grandland. It is now also known what the Opel Astra GSe and Grandland GSe should cost.
The Opel Astra was already available as a 180 hp plug-in and is now available as an Astra GSe with a 225 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Opel Astra GSe costs €49,499 in the Netherlands. Station wagon Opel Astra Sports Tourer will also be available as a GSe, but the price of that sporty station is not yet known.
Then the Opel Grandland. It was also already available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, it was not 180 hp as in the Astra, but delivered 224 hp. The GSe version is now above that and it is not entirely surprisingly more potent than the GSe version of the Astra. The Opel Grandland GSe has a 300 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its price: €55,599.
Opel Astra GSE
The Astra GSe was the first car of the new GSe label presented by Opel. You may remember the old GSE label from cars like the Commodore and Monza, but nowadays you write it as GSe and it does not stand for Grand Sport Einspritzung (later Grand Sport Injection, GSI), but for Grand Sport Electric. The powertrain consists of a 180 hp 1.6 petrol engine that, together with a 110 hp electric motor, produces a system power of 225 hp and 360 Nm. This sprints the Astra GSe in 7.5 seconds to a speed of 100 km / h. Its top speed: 235 km/h. The 12.4 kWh battery is good for an electric range of up to 64 kilometers. Up to 134 km/h you can make your kilometers fully electrically.
The Astra Sports Tourer also comes as a GSe, but the price of that version will follow.
The Opel Astra GSe is 1 centimeter closer to the asphalt than the regular versions. The dampers have been modified and the steering is more direct. From the outside you can recognize the Astra GSe by 18-inch wheels that are inspired by those of the warmly received Manta GSe. The front and rear bumpers are also slightly different from those of the milder Astras. In the interior you will find GSe sports seats that are covered with Alcantara. In terms of safety, Opel fills the Astra GSe with everything it has to offer.
Opel Grandland GSE
The Grandland GSe is also a potent plug-in. The Opel Grandland GSe also has a 1.6 petrol engine, although it delivers 200 hp in the SUV. Unlike the Astra GSe, the Grandland GSe has not one, but two electric motors. One at the front (110 hp) and one at the rear (113 hp). The system power is a generous 300 hp and with that the four-wheel drive Grandland GSe sprints to a speed of 100 km / h in 6.1 seconds. Its top speed: 235 km/h. With 14.6 kWh, the battery pack is larger than that of the Astra GSe, although the electric range is logically marginally smaller at 63 kilometers.
The Grandland GSe also has wheels that resemble those of the Manta GSe, although they are 19-inch under the SUV. Specific bumpers and GSe badges are of course also part of the GSe party.
