Bugatti Chiron Profilée most expensive new car ever auctioned

Very rare classics sometimes bring insane amounts (whether or not at auction). The Ferrari 250 GTO, for example, was the most expensive car ever for years. One copy once fetched almost €70 million. That record was broken last year when one of the two copies of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé was sold for around €135 million. Things don’t go that fast with new cars, but the Bugatti Chiron Profilée does its best.

Last Wednesday evening, the only Chiron Profilée in existence was auctioned in Paris by RM Sotheby’s. The hammer fell with an amount of no less than €9,792,500. Never before has so much been paid for a new car at an auction. A remarkably high amount, since the Chiron Profilée is indeed a one-off, but based on a car of which there are of course more. The Bugatti Chiron Profilée, in the special color Argent Atlantique, was presented at the end of last year and, in short, combines some facets of the extra sporty Chiron Pur Sport with the milder Chirons. It has larger air intakes, a larger grille, different bumper work and a rear spoiler integrated into the body. The transmission also has shorter gear ratios, but its top speed of 380 km / h is still nicely 30 km / h above that of the Chiron Pur Sport. The W16 delivers, as usual, 1,500 hp. It is not known who now owns the most expensive new car ever auctioned. Bugatti did indicate earlier that part of the proceeds would go to charities. We are curious what will happen to the prices of the Bugatti Mistral, which is limited to 50 copies. After all, it costs at least €5 million in itself. All copies have already been sold, so this new record held by the Chiron Profilée can no longer be taken from the Mistral.
