Always as a coupe

The new Mercedes-AMG SL has been with us for about 1.5 years now. The SL now always has a fabric soft top and thus indirectly succeeds the AMG GT Roadster. The new Mercedes-AMG GT therefore only comes as a coupe and it is that car that we can show you from all angles on these spy pictures.
Mercedes-Benz is thinning its model range and does not seem to stop in the coming years. The Coupé and Cabrio versions of the C and E Class are succeeded by one model and the new Mercedes-AMG SL not only replaces the previous SL, but also succeeds the AMG GT Roadster and even acts more or less more as a successor to the S-class Cabrio. After all, you can – on paper – go in with more than two people. From now on, the SL will always have a fabric soft top, which offers Mercedes-Benz the option of having the new-generation AMG GT consist of only one body style. So no AMG GT Roadster, but a coupe!

Mercedes-Benz AMG GT: recognizable silhouette.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT in these photos is apparently a 53 AMG. After all, at the bottom of the buttocks we see two sets of two round exhaust tailpipes. The 63 variant gets trapezoidal end pieces. Just like the AMG 55 flavor of the new SL, the AMG 53 gets a 476 hp 4.0 V8. The 63 variant probably kicks up to 585 hp, just like in the SL. Just like the SL, the closed AMG GT will probably also have a more than 800 hp plug-in hybrid version. The AMG GT recipe is not worked too hard and that means that the new model also gets a long snout and a relatively short passenger compartment. Whether the AMG GT is a 2+2 like the new SL remains to be seen. Mercedes-AMG may only give the AMG GT two seats because it positions the car as a sportier model.
