AC Cobra returns with V8 and contemporary format

The British AC is breathing new life into the Cobra and will present the AC Cobra GT roadster next spring, which the company is now parking in the dark. Just like before, the AC Cobra gets a V8 under its hood, but it’s not as light-footed as the Cobra of yesteryear. It offers modern comfort and grew considerably compared to the original. Its proportions were preserved.

The British AC is back and brings a contemporary AC Cobra on the market: the GT Roadster. This spring, in London, the brand will draw the curtain on the new creation, which has retained the proportions of the original. The car grew considerably. Where the wheelbase of the original is 2.29 meters, that of the new 2.57 meters is: 28 cm more. For comparison: the current Mazda MX-5 has a wheelbase of 2.31 meters and an AMG GT one of 2.95 meters.

The Cobra could not be as small as the original due to modern safety requirements, AC explains. However, the Cobra will get a V8 under the hood as usual. In 2023, that 663 hp and 780 Nm of torque is strong, so that the 0-100 sprint must be over in about 3.6 seconds. The Cobra GT Roadster is available with a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission.

In addition, AC equips the Cobra GT with modern delights such as an infotainment system, air conditioning and electric windows. A hardtop is also an option. That does not make the Cobra lighter, although AC promises a weight of less than 1,500 kg. The brand will produce the new Cobras in Europe and each copy will be made entirely according to the personal wishes of the customer. Add to that the fact that the Cobra will have a carbon fiber body, and we fear that the starting price will not be tender. AC will build the Cobra GT Roadster in a small edition.
