AC Cars is making good progress. It builds the Cobra again in different flavors and with both combustion engines and electric drive. AC is now expanding in the latter area with the Series 4, of which two electric variants are coming to the market.
Since AC Cars came back into operation ten years ago, a lot of work has been done to provide as extensive a range as possible. Of course there are again Cobras that combine their classic appearance with modern petrol power (from Ford and Chevrolet), but last year AC also lifted the first electric Cobra on the podium. That is one according to the design of the Series 1, with a 313 hp electric motor. Undoubtedly good for a lot of driving pleasure, although there is always room for a little extra. AC is now doing that with the electric Cobra Series 4.
The electric Series 4, also known as Mk IV, not only looks a lot sportier than the Series 1, but is also a lot stronger. At least, the top version. AC screws in the ‘mildest’ version the same 313 hp electric motor as in the electric Series 1. However, the Series 4 is slightly lighter, it weighs not 1,250 kg but 1,190 kg. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint is therefore already completed in 4.9 seconds, yet 1.8 seconds faster. The estimated driving range is also excellent at 305 km. The absolute cream of the crop is the variant with 626 hp. It needs roughly 4 seconds for the same sprint and is slightly heavier with 1,240 kg. The driving range estimates AC at about 260 km. It will probably take a while to recharge, because with the electric Cobra Series 1, this was only possible with a 6 kW charger.
Anyone who has become enthusiastic should try to hold on to that enthusiasm when hearing the prize. The 313 hp Cobra Series 4 electric costs at least € 172,174 converted. The 626 hp variant is a big step above that with € 195,457.
More powerful V8 for Superblower
Fortunately, there is also good news for those who cannot find a Cobra without the screaming of a fat V8. AC hangs a more powerful V8 in the Superblower. Previously it had a 588 hp 6.2 V8 from the Chevrolet Corvette C7 ZO6, but the power of that block has been significantly increased. No less than 659 hp and 880 Nm stamps it out now. AC does not yet report what that does to the performance of the Cobra Superblower. The price is already known: converted € 162,297, cheaper and more powerful than the two electric types.
