Activate red watch face with night mode on an Apple Watch Ultra

Anyone who owns an Apple Watch Ultra has a special option hidden in the Modular Ultra and Signpost dial. You can activate a special night mode on this, so that the dial turns completely red.

If you go out at night to spot wild animals, stars or other things, a special night mode will come in handy. The red glow means your eyes don’t have to get used to the bright blue light and you won’t be ‘blinded’ easily. We explain how to display the red watch face with night mode on the Ultra.

Only for Apple Watch Ultra

The red dial is only available if you use the ‘Signpost’ or ‘Modular Ultra’ dial. This was specially developed for the Apple Watch Ultra and provides important information for runners, walkers and swimmers. Unfortunately, all other dials do not have the special night mode. Activate Night Mode on Apple Watch

Since watchOS 10, the Apple Watch will automatically activate night mode, for the aforementioned watch faces, when the ambient light sensor detects a dark environment. Under watchOS 9 this was only possible by turning the Digital Crown, but this now shows the Apple Watch widgets.

  • Place your finger on the screen to edit the watch face
  • Tap ‘Edit’

Turn the Digital Crown to change the option, so you can choose to switch it on or off manually or activate automatic mode. Press the Digital Crown to confirm your choice.

Signpost and Modular Ultra dial

By default, when you tap the bezel (the ring that shows minutes or hours) on the Signpost watch face, the bezel turns into a compass and your current latitude and longitude coordinates are displayed in the ring. To view the elevation and slope instead, touch and hold the watch face, then tap Edit. Swipe left to the Bezel screen, turn the Digital Crown up and choose Height/Slope.

With the Modular Ultra watch face you have more room for complications and you can use the outer edge of the screen to display the seconds, height or depth live.
