An important part of the lock screen are widgets, which show current information at a glance. This way you can see the status of your home, the current temperature or your agenda.
The shortcuts can’t be compared to the widgets you can place on the Home screen between your apps, because the Lock screen versions are more minimalistic. Anyone who owns an Apple Watch will immediately recognize the widgets, because they are enlarged versions of the complications.
Add widgets to lock screen
- Wake up your iPhone’s screen
- Place your finger on the Lock screen for a few moments
- Tap ‘Customize’
- Choose ‘Add widgets’
Space has been cleared under the clock for the shortcuts. Tap the different apps to view the widgets and add them by tapping them. Depending on the size of your chosen widgets, you can add up to four under the clock.
Additional mini widget
Above the clock you have a small widget field that offers space for a text widget. For example, you can display the weather conditions or calories burned as text. You can also show your upcoming activities here.
Limited interactivity
Unfortunately, the widgets are not really interactive. In most cases, they open the linked app or component within the app. For example, if you tap the status of your lamps, the overview of your lamps will open in the Home app, an appointment will open in Calendar, etc. Third-party apps can also offer widgets for the lock screen.
