Adjust always on-display on iPhone 14 Pro (Max) or newer

With the Always-on display for the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) or newer Pro models, the screen is always on. The brightness of the screen is automatically adjusted to a dark display, including the background. You can also read the time, but also view your widgets and notifications.

If desired, you can adjust the contents of the always-on-screen. This way you can choose to hide the background and/or notifications. In that case you only see the time and widgets. The content is refreshed with 1Hz so that it stays up to date, but saves the battery.

Adjust always on-display

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone
  2. Navigate to ‘screen and brightness’
  3. Tap ‘Always on’
  4. Change the options ‘Show background’ and ‘Show reports’

If you choose to switch off the background, the screen is dimmed and displayed dark. If you deactivate ‘show reports’, the notifications on the access screen are also hidden when the screen is dimmed.

Would you rather not use the Always-on display? Then you can switch off the function by switching off the rear switch ‘Always on’.
