The AirPods Pro are equipped with pressure sensors. With these ‘buttons’ you can easily control music and switch to active noise cancellation. This is how you set the pressure sensors of the AirPods Pro.
Setting AirPods Pro pressure sensors: this is how it works
Seasoned AirPods users are familiar with the operation of Apple’s wireless earbuds. You can, for example, pause music or ask Siri something by tapping the stems. It works slightly differently on the AirPods Pro, but it is not a big difference.
Here you are dealing with pressure sensors. This ‘button’ can be recognized by the slightly deeper part on the stem of the earplug. Pressure sensors are provided on both AirPods Pro earbuds. You can press once, twice or three times to operate them. Longer press is also possible. That is how it works:
- Pressure once to pause, resume or take a phone call.
- Pressure twice to go to the next track in the album or playlist.
- Pressure three times to go to the previous track in the album or playlist.
- Hold the pressure sensor for a while pressed to switch between Active Noise Canceling and Transparency mode.

Adjust pressure sensors
Don’t like the standard controls of the AirPods Pro? Fortunately, it is possible to adjust the controls to your liking. That’s how you do that:
- Open the Settings app of the paired iPhone or iPad;
- Go to ‘Bluetooth’ and under ‘My devices’ tap the information icon next to the AirPods Pro;
- Then indicate for each wireless earbud what to do if you keep the pressure sensors pressed for a long time.
It is not possible to change the order of the number of presses. You can, however, adjust the speed and duration of the pressure sensors. To do this, select ‘Accessibility’ in the Settings app of the paired iPhone or iPad. Then scroll down and tap AirPods. Then select ‘Slow’ or ‘Slowest’ at the printing speed. You can also change the duration of a touch to ‘Short’ or ‘Shorter’.
In the same menu it is also possible to activate the active noise cancellation for only one AirPods Pro. This is useful in traffic, for example, because it keeps you informed of what is happening around you.
