Apple has postponed this important function on iPhone
Apple announced last year on the WWDC that the speech assistant Siri would become considerably smarter thanks to Apple Intelligence. Siri has now received an extension on iPhones with Apple Intelligence, but there are still functions that are missing. Originally this new version of Siri would be planned for iOS 18.4, but now we probably have to wait longer until iOS 26.4 has appeared.
The official release of iOS 26 is only in September. That means that you have to wait a little longer on iOS 26.4. That will probably only be somewhere in the spring of 2026.
Better Siri comes later, but why?
But why does it all take longer and is this important function of the iPhone postponed? Apple thought that the new Siri did not meet their quality standards. And we have to be honest: Apple is a bit behind the competitors Google and Samsung in the AI ​​area. The digital assistants are now a lot better than Siri. Other AI functions on most Android smartphones are also a little further advanced.
These new functions for Siri are still coming
The current Siri can of course already quite a bit, and with Apple Intelligence even much more. But some functions are still not in the beta of iOS 26. You now have to wait even longer for this important function (s) before you can use them on your iPhone:
- Personal context: Siri can find something easier in your mail, messages or agenda;
- Read content of the screen: The speech assistant will soon understand what is on your screen;
- Better support in apps: Siri will soon also know more about apps that you work with.
No iOS 19, but iOS 26 (and more)
Apple is taking a different approach this year. There will be no iOS 19, as you might have expected. Instead, Apple has released iOS 26. The name refers to the year 2026. This name change is not only for the iPhone: other operating systems also get a new name.
- iPados 26 (for iPads);
- Watchos 26 (for the Apple Watch);
- MacOS 26 (for the Mac);
- TVOS 26 (for Apple TV);
- Visionos 26 (for Apple Vision Pro).
