Good news for iPhone owners, because AirDrop will soon get a lot better. This will change soon!
AirDrop is about to get a lot better – and it’s not because of Apple
AirDrop is one of those features that you only really miss if you don’t have it. It is one of the easiest ways to send and receive files such as photos.
Sharing photos and files between two iPhones is therefore a piece of cake. But as soon as there is one person with an Android device in your group of friends, things become a lot more cumbersome. Before you know it, you’ll be opening another chat app to quickly send your files.

Still, Android has had a similar feature on Pixel phones since late last year, called Quick Share (formerly Nearby Share). This feature works in conjunction with the AirDrop feature on the iPhone. This allows you to easily share files, such as photos, between Android and Apple devices.
According to various sources, Google has now confirmed that the function is coming to more Android devices. This means that you will soon be able to share your photos or other files more easily via Airdrop with your friends who have an Android device. A great upgrade!

It remains to be seen exactly which smartphones the function will come to, because Google has not yet named any specific devices. If we can guess, the feature will probably become available on Samsung devices.
AirDrop: from iPhone to Android (but without Apple)
Google did not create this AirDrop-like feature for Android together with Apple. The company says it uses its own version of AirDrop. It is not clear exactly how Apple views this.
In the past, Apple was usually not keen on these types of solutions that allow iPhones and Android devices to work better together. But the feature has been available on Pixel phones for a while now and so far Apple hasn’t done anything about it.
