AirPods 4 could be released as early as September – here’s what we know now

Apple is working on multiple new AirPods, but we expect the AirPods 4 during the iPhone event in September. Here’s what you need to know.

AirPods 4 could launch in September

The AirPods 3 are already dating back to 2021, so it’s high time for a new version. And that will happen. In the past, new AirPods usually came out at the same time as new iPhones. We therefore expect the AirPods 4 to be introduced during the iPhone event in September, probably in two different versions.

The AirPods 4 are rumored to get a popular feature from the AirPods Pro, namely active noise cancellation. This will block out disturbing ambient noise much better. The downside of this addition is that the AirPods 4 will also become a lot more expensive. For that reason, Apple is also said to be working on a version without noise cancellation. We expect both versions of the AirPods 4 to be presented in September.

Design and connection

The design of both AirPods 4 models will most likely resemble a combination of the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro. For example, they will get short stems like the Pro models. The AirPods 4 will not get silicone tips, but they will have an improved fit.

The two versions of the AirPods 4 that will be released in September will both logically get a charging case with a USB C connection. After all, no new Apple devices with a Lightning connection have been released for a while. Furthermore, the case of the AirPods 4 version with noise cancellation is equipped with built-in speakers and support for the Find My function.

Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo has long ago announced that Apple will release a cheaper version of the AirPods in 2024. These ‘AirPods Lite’ would cost around 99 dollars. It is not known whether Kuo meant the cheaper version of the AirPods 4 with this Lite version.

AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Max

There have been rumors for some time that Apple is also working on the AirPods Pro 3 and a new version of the AirPods Max. Unlike the AirPods 4, we don’t expect them in September and not even in 2024. A number of new features of the AirPods Pro 3 are already known:

• Improved audio quality
• H3 chip
• USB C connection
• Special hearing functions
• More health features

We do expect that you will have to wait at least another year for the AirPods Pro 3. It is not yet clear when the AirPods Max 2 will be released. When there is news, you will of course read it on iPhoned!
