iOS 16: AirPods no longer work
The new update for your iPhone is here: with iOS 16, your iPhone has received many new (and cool) features. You will see many changes immediately. For example, the lock screen has been overhauled and a new search button has appeared on the home screen.
In addition, Apple has also adjusted various things that you do not see at all (but only find out when you get started with iOS 16). One of those changes is that your iPhone can now recognize fake or fake AirPods.
How to use fake AirPods in iOS 16
Many of the fake AirPods are indistinguishable from the real thing at first glance. When you also use them only on your iPhone, you may never find out that you might have fake AirPods. Marktplaats is also full of providers of fake AirPods.

So did you buy a second-hand set of AirPods or did you not purchase them from an official reseller? Then it may happen that your AirPods no longer work in iOS 16 or give an error message. Then you don’t have real AirPods, but a set of ‘fakes’.
You can often still use the fake AirPods. You do this by tapping “Connect in Bluetooth settings”. You will find this option at the bottom of the window that you will see when you try to connect the fake AirPods.
