We have been waiting for the new AirTag for at least several months. Ultimately, Apple decided to release the AirTag 2 on Monday January 26, 2026. The first version was released almost five years ago, and in all that time Apple has changed virtually nothing. The AirTag 2 has a greater range, better speakers that play sound 50 percent louder and they are also cheaper.

The original AirTag appeared on April 20, 2021, for a price of 39 euros each and 129 euros for a 4-pack. The AirTag 2 has now come onto the market for a lower price. You order one for the price of 35 euros. You now pay 119 euros for a 4-pack. If you would rather spend even less, you can now purchase the first version of the AirTag for €29.

Greater range, better speakers

The AirTag 2 is equipped with the Apple Ultra Wideband chip, which makes it easier to find. Precise Search lets you find lost objects up to 50 percent further away than the first generation. Thanks to the updated Bluetooth chip, the search range has also increased considerably. Accurate Search is now also possible from the Apple Watch Series 9 or newer and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or newer.

Even though the device is cheaper, the speakers of the AirTag 2 are a lot better than those of the first version. This is useful for locating the device, especially if a strange AirTag moves with you. You will then receive a notification on your iPhone and a sound will be played on the AirTag. This way you can easily find it, even if it is not yours. The speakers play sound 50 percent louder and can therefore be heard twice as far away.
